Top Tips for Memorizing Bible Verses

#1 Make it meaningful. It’s easier to remember something if it matters to you. Choose verses that mean something to you personally. Apply it to your life. Repeat it in context (when it applies in your life). If it’s a prayer, pray it. When you want to memorize something that just isn’t that personal, you can make it more meaningful by studying it’s context and relating it to things you already know.

#2 Read it often.

#3 Test yourself. Make yourself have to remember, not just read. Even if at first you’re only remember one word. Make your memory work at it!

Top Tips for Memorizing Bible Verses Together

#1 Read out loud to each other.

#2 Make each other’s memories work at it by only supplying the words the other person can’t think of. Work through the verse gradually, one person prompting with as many words as are necessary and the other reciting. Take turns reading and reciting.

#3 Quiz each other. After you have verses memorized, go back over them. Supply the reference and demand the text, or vice versa. Or ask for “the verse about __.”

You can do this! When you win, come back and motivate me to memorize more verses!
