I think a Proverbs 31 Woman theme is a great bridal shower theme for a bride who wants to be a Proverbs 31 woman! Here are some ideas and resources for planning a Proverbs 31 themed bridal shower.
Using Proverbs 31 As a Christian Bridal Shower Theme
Let’s get started!
Is It a Good Fit?
First of all, I think it’s important to determine if a Proverbs 31 theme is a good fit for the bride in question. Is this a theme that she appreciates and would enjoy?
Second, is it a good fit for the family and friends who will be invited to the shower? Of course, the shower isn’t specifically for them but you do want them to enjoy it. It is a party you’re inviting them to so you do need to take them into consideration as well as the one being honored! More importantly, some women are uncomfortable with or outright dislike the Proverbs 31 Woman. Given who is being invited to the shower, is this a theme that would be likely to result in unpleasant experiences for the bride, for you, or for other guests? I don’t think anyone would like having a theme they love being mocked, or ridiculed, or criticized during a bridal shower!
Proverbs 31 is a great theme but not necessarily the best one for every situation. And, of course, there are lots of other lovely options as well.
Choose an Approach
If you do decide to use it, there are a few different ways you can approach that.
For example, the Proverbs 31 Woman is, of course, called the “Proverbs 31 Woman.” But depending on the Bible translation she’s also called, “A Virtuous Woman,” or, “A Wife Valor,” and maybe even other things. Use what speaks to you (you, meaning the bride and the hostess) and what you like focusing on the best. You could also do a “Far Above Rubies” take on Proverbs 31.
Another thing is whether you do a more “ancient” take on the theme, taking your cues from the original setting and specific activities of the Proverbs 31 woman and those around her, or “modern,” focusing on the setting and activities of a modern homemaker. There’s obviously a lot of connection between the two–in the principles in the text–but the two would suggest different decorations, games, and even food.
Proverbs 31 Bridal Shower Color Scheme Ideas
Use any color scheme you like for a Proverbs 31 shower, such as the wedding colors or bride’s favorite colors. Or, take a cue from the “Far Above Rubies” concept and use a ruby red color scheme.

Proverbs 31 Bridal Shower Decorations
If you choose a modern approach to the theme, you could use just generic bridal shower decorations, such as flowers, tissue poms, streamers, and balloons, or you could do more of a homemaking/homemaker theme with the decorations if that’s the direction you’re going with the Proverbs 31 theme.
If you’re going with an “ancient” theme, that suggests very different possibilities. I think it would be quite challenging, but if you have the desire, and the stuff, and the time, . . . I would love see what you come up with!
Once again, ruby red is a possible approach to decor and there a several ideas in the posts linked above.
Finally, no matter which you choose, there’s something else you can incorporate into the decorations. That is words, phrases, and verses from the text of Proverbs 31:10-31. Use the text itself as part of your decor!
I do have one free printable (in four color options) if you’d like to check it out: A Virtuous Woman free printable in four colors.
Using the Text
Speaking of using the text, here are some ways you can do that either for decorations or for other things:
- Invitations
- Signs
- Wall decor
- Banners
- Devotional
- Prayer
- Reading of the text
- Games and activities
Proverbs 31 Bridal Shower Games
Speaking of games and activities, your obviously need some Proverbs 31 themed games. Like, duh!
Before I give you a few other ideas, I want to tell you that Virtuous Weddings has printable Proverbs 31 bridal shower games and activities. They include things like word searches, word scrambles, what’s in your purse, advice for the bride, and more. You can find an overview of them all here: A Guide to Virtuous Weddings’ Proverbs 31 Themed Bridal Shower Products, or go directly to the the Proverbs 31 bridal shower section of the Virtuous Weddings Shop.
Okay, so other ideas. Things that aren’t paper based. The possibilities are probably (sort of ) endless, so in the interest of not putting all my ideas into one blog post, here are a few:
- Charades
- Hiding rubies (like for “door prizes”).
- Guess the number of rubies in the jar (I mean, what else could you use for games like this other than rubies?)
- Also, there are a few more game/activity ideas in a previous post Thirty-one Proverbs 31 Bridal Shower Ideas and Resources

What? There’s more? Of course. What about food, favors, and gifts? And thank you cards?
A modern take on the theme doesn’t really suggest any specific menus or foods to me, but I think the “ancient” approach opens up a lot of possibilities for narrowing down what you have on your menu (from all of the things you would possibly serve at a bridal shower). “Biblical” foods like barley, wheat, dates, figs, and olives come to mind.
For gifts, you could do themed gifts. Have everyone bring a gift that relates to an assigned verse from Proverbs 31. Or, for more flexibility, let them give whatever they want to but write on the package which verse the gift relates to. This could create interest around the gift as everyone tries to guess what the gift might be. Or, you specifically have guests guess what it is or have the bride guess.
I’m on the lookout for themed favor ideas, thank you cards, invitations, and more. I will share them with you as I find them.
I hope you enjoyed this planning a bridal shower post. Proverbs 31 if one of my favorite bridal shower theme ideas and I am constantly working on new ideas and resources.
