Use What You Have Bridal Shower Inspiration: Fall Fruits

Are you laden with fall fruits AND have a bridal shower to host this fall?

“Use What You Have” is a great way to save money. Instead of planning a shower and then trying to figure out how to afford it, use what you already have available to you. Got some fruit?

What is the “Use What You Have” Concept?

Primarily, the “Use What You Have” concept is using the supplies (or other resources, like tools and skills), that you already have in your possession. It’s especially good to use things that don’t already have a specific purpose, like extra craft supplies left over from projects (rather than just things you’ve stock up on), or things that can be reused (like tools and non-consumables).

Secondarily, it can mean using the resources you have available to you, even if that does mean spending some money. That is, you don’t have the things in your possession but you can easily and affordably obtain them. For example, if you have a lot of good thrift stores in your area you might shop for decor there, and pick your shower theme and style based on what you can find.

For gardeners, it means using the produce you have in your garden (or orchard) at the time of the shower, especially the things you have in over-abundance. Beyond the garden, it can also mean not just things you have coming in your garden but things that are readily available near you this time of year. So, if you don’t have a garden, or it’s not producing abundantly, you can also take advantage of in-season produce deals, using the same inspiration!

Use what you have bridal shower inspiration: fall fruits.

Inspiration: Summer Fruits

This post is a collection of images of different types of fall fruit, designed to inspire! There are three ways you might use these fruits for a bridal shower.

1) To feed the guests. Got apples? Feed them apples!
2) As decorations. Fruits can be used to make beautiful displays, especially for a shower that is food related, such as a harvest or homesteading theme.
3) In some other way. You may be able to use some things from your garden as part of a game or activity, or as a prize. Do any of these images suggest any possible uses? Hint: for a kitchen/food shower you could do a taste test as one of the games, or a recipe demonstration as an activity.

Apples

When I think of fall produce being used at a bridal shower (or any other party), the first two things I think of are apples and pumpkins. Apples are so fall-ish and can be prepared in a variety of tasty and festive ways.

Apples are also decorative!

Well, they have the potential to be. I’ll admit the fruits from our trees aren’t so handsome. However, really well-cared for apple trees would likely produce better looking results. If your apples are like ours, see above. 😉 If you’re doing better than we are, use them in displays too!

Plums

Figs

If you have fig trees, you might be scrambling for ideas for how to eat all of them or preserve them. Feed some to your shower guests, or use them in displays.

Pears

Pears are the second “fall fruit” I think of (after apples). While recipes for them might not be as abundant, there are many ways to use them!

Asian Pears

Asian pears are apparently not a very common fruit (I didn’t find many photos of them prepared, as you can see!), but they are tasty! If you have Asian pear trees yourself, or have access to an orchard, use them, even if you have to serve or display them very simply. I did do a quick search on Pinterest and there are recipes out there specifically for Asian pears.

Cranberries

Do you grow cranberries?

Persimmons

I must be getting hungry, because all I can think of is how I want to eat all of this stuff! Persimmons don’t grow where I live so I haven’t eaten a lot of them . . . but these are luring me! If you do have persimmon trees, how could you use the fruit at a fall bridal shower?

Grapes

Harvesting grapes this fall? Clockwise from top left, photo #2 is crackers with grape jelly, cream cheese, and chives. Photo #9 is frozen grapes.
